Is there any help on appropriate configurations for a commercial license, and best practice on how to capture the end-customer name, order#, or other identifying details of the customer to whom we are issuing it?
For Commercial licenses, the activation process is highly important as it offers insights into and control over your licenses. Another critical factor for subscription is License Renewability. Activation and Renewability are key considerations for consumer oriented products in particular. You may manage your commercial licenses differently for enterprise products based on your business model and relationships with the customers.
If you are trying integrate customer data on the back-office systems like CRM/ERP, you can invoke our web service APIs (e.g. IssueLicenseByTemplate, CreateLicense, UpdateLicense) from the back office application to get the Activation Key; which you can use to link to your customer data within your back-office system e.g. invoice etc. This API also provides ability to capture custom tags (array of name value pairs) which can contain any custom information that you want to deploy with your licenses to an end-user machine e.g. Customer ID, Customer Name etc.
