Licenses for Internal and Beta Testing (FAQ111)

How should we generate licenses for internal or Beta testing before releasing our product, such that we do NOT get charged for activations on these licenses?

Unlike evaluation/trial licenses, test Licenses are licenses generated either for internal testing or for customer Beta testing in ADVANCE of product release.

When you perform internal or Beta testing of your product you should create a new test SKU which corresponds to the standard Commercial or Evaluation SKU you are testing but, which clearly identifies the licenses issued are being used for testing. This is done by adding the word “ FOR INTERNAL TESTING PURPOSES ONLY “ to the License Description field.

For example if you wish to test the Standard and Enterprise variants of your product (represented by Standard and Enterprise SKUs) then you should ideally also have additional test SKUs for each e.g. Standard (Test), Enterprise (Test).  The only difference being that these latter SKUs have the Description field set to "FOR INTERNAL TESTING PURPOSES ONLY"

If you are creating a test license without reference to a SKU (e.g. using Issue License page on SLP Online portal) then you need to ensure you set the Description field in the license to "FOR INTERNAL TESTING PURPOSES ONLY".

These steps must be followed in order to ensure that you will be charged correctly.
